* Sometimes the hardest person to leave is the version of yourself you became

When someone stops choosing us, it is very easy to turn their decision into a verdict about ourselves. Suddenly we get the “not interesting enough” treatment, the “not attractive enough, the “too much”, the “not enough”, the “too difficult to love” treatment, and there is not a thing we can do about it. This is where rejection can become cruel for anybody, and especially people who already live with anxiety. An anxious mind rarely leaves an unanswered question unanswered. It fills the silence with ruminating thoughts, questions and answers. We may be grieving the future we imagined, the identity we had inside the relationship, the version of ourselves that felt chosen, desirable, safe or important. So when we are rejected sometimes we keep fighting for the relationship because we are secretly trying to rescue that version of ourselves.

We have all been there, on both sides of the table. We know the struggle and the bottomless hole. Nobody told us that another person’s love was never supposed to be the final authority of your worth. It has changed how each of us experience loneliness, failure and those quiet moments when we wonder whether we are still enough for the people around us. And maybe this is good. For sure, growing up emotionally is partly learning to survive these moments. This is also how mycorejouney began.
